Sad to say, but wont be back

My wife and I have gone to dews quite a few times. I actually proposed to my wife at the old location. I love the food and service. The problem we've had the last few times is when we call for reservations they ask the occasion. Why would you market yourself as a special occasion only restaurant. I realized that we only go once a year, but last time our bill for two entrees and four drinks was 150$. Its absolutely insane!! Maybe if they charged 20 a plate instead of 30, or charged 20 dollars for a 10 dollar bottle of wine instead 35, more people would eat there. And do it more often. I love the food so much that I would eat there at least once a month if it was more affordable. I mean come on were in a recession here people. My wife and I have come to terms with the fact that it just isn't worth the money. I am willing to have lesser service in another restaurant if it will save my 75 dollars.... literally 75 dollars saved on a comparable meal. unbelievable??
- Pros: Wonderful food, great drink selection
- Cons: unreal prices
BEST DINING, BEST WINE LIST, BEST COCKTAILS IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY
by billkaren
Recently had filet mignon...cooked perfect....flavor was outstanding....top notch & attentive service from all of the staff...the owner, a gracious host, shared with me their new cocktail recipe, Smashed Tomatoe, a new favorite ...
All of their soups are outstanding and the wine list is superb. The Best In The Central Valley for dining, a light meal or a drink. Atmosphere is warm yet metro...love it at Dewz.
- Pros: Everything is Top Shelf
- Cons: Live Dance Music would be nice
Delicious and classy

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who stumbled upon it randomly, who could not stop raving about it. I went there a few weeks ago while visiting the area from New York, and I could not beleive there was such a great place in Modesto (no offense to Modesto). The service was superb, maybe a little over the top, but not overbearing.
The fried calamari app was one of the best I've ever eaten -- lightly battered, crispy, not chewy at all. Really the epitome of well done calamari. I didn't have the caesar salad, but they make the dressing from scratch tableside -- a nice touch. The mahi mahi with macadamia nut crust was another superlative dish. I am not a regular fish eater, and this was a delicious combination of textures and flavours (some orange flavoured sauce on it).
Prices were decent, portions large. Highly recommended!
- Pros: Delicious food, great service.
