My wife went in to get her sewing machine fixed and after taking it back twice, she asked him (Gary) why it was so hard to fix. He blew up at her and yelled "how dare you say it is not fixed. I have been fixing machines for 25 years etc etc. She was so shocked that she did not know what to say. She is a very calm diplomatic person. His employee walked away looking embarrased. She was probably his wife. My wife finally grabbed her machine a ran out of the store and She was crying when she got home. I said that we needed to go back together and confront him and she begged me not to because she was sure that we would fight. I called him for an explanation and he denied everything. I told him my wife was standing next to me and he had to apologize to her. He told me "go to hell buddy"and hung up. This guy needs to be out of business. I pitty his wife.
I would not recommend shopping here for anything. I went in to purchase a vacuum and needed recommendations for what would be the best for pet hair and allergens. Yes, I should have done my own research but I did think a local small business owner who does this for a living would be a great person to be reliable. I was VERY wrong. The owner recommended a specific vacuum (which I bought) for several hundred dollars after his claims that it is his "top vacuum", is "top of the line", is "super sealed, won't let allergens out once vacuumed", is "incredible for even the smallest particles, including pet hair" and more... After owning it for a week, it is HORRIBLE. It does none of the things he claimed and is actually a very low-rated, over-hyped vacuum that he has a whole supply of and is trying to push. I thoroughly cleaned it and tried to take it back to exchange for a different vacuum that I looked up (and he had in stock) that actually has incredible ratings (a standard brand). Nope. He refused (even with the receipt dated only 6 days previous, the original box, paperwork, etc). Do NOT trust him - he has no desire to help you with "expert advice" (his words) - he only wants you to buy the over priced vacuums that he is trying to pawn off for a ridiculous amount of money. Save your money and go to Sears, Target, ANYWHERE but here.

Gary! My wife went by on Monday to find the store closed, I went by on July 5 and the store was closed, not a big deal. My wife calls to see if their open today July 6 and things went really crazy. My wife says "oh your open" I went by the other day and you were closed and so did my husband, the owner says "hey everyone is entitled to a day off if you don't like it take your business some where else". My wife said no, no, no I agree everyone is entitled to a day off, the owner said have a nice day and hung up on her. Very rude and unprofessional to say the least. I will be going to back to Meissner Sewing Center in Sacramento to avoid this volatile situation ever again. Dennis @ Meissenr's has much more knowledge than Gary and is very friendly and professional.
Their selection and service is much better than Modesto Sew and Vac and to me the drive is worth the extra time. I would rather support a local business but not in this case.
I bought a Riccar Vacuum here about 7 years ago and have always received excellent service! Still have the same vacuum and get it serviced about once a year. Good customer service!
never beleve what you hear. best service in Modesto got the work done that day and the price was the best will be back win i ever i need a vacuum or sewing mach good customer service don't believe the creeps that levies the bad reviews it just not true go see for your self you to will see how grate this place really is
Gary Edwards BERATES a 10 year old girl....
Gary Edwards berated me in his store when I brought my broken machine back to him that he had just serviced that same day. I came home very shook up about it as I have NEVER been treated this way IN MY LIFE in any store! I spoke to my husband about his abusive behavior towards me. My daughter overheard me and ended up going on line (without my knowledge) to respond to a review written by Gary Edwards. She left a comment to one of his LYING reviews that he left about her mother. The review is 2 reviews below and in it, he PRETENDS to be a customer in the store that is witnessing another customer berate the "wonderful" owner.
Gary Edwards wrote my daughter back...you gotta read this! She is just a small child age 10...YOU have absolutely NO COMMON SENSE Gary..It is very hard to actually tell who the child is...YOU or her?

Hey u know what I would do Gary Edwards... read some of the reviews on here. NO one likes u or ur service that really sucks. What u said in there was a lie. u threaten my mom. you just cant handle being wrong and u think its good to lie. i hope ur proud of me the man that runs this business is jacked, if anything watch 4 this liar!

Learn to spell or to use spell check when you speak stupid to me because you sound as ignorant as your mother. I WALKED INTO THE STORE! LEARN TO READ!!!! Your mother was wrong about her machine that she supposedly made 1 million on her machineand then 5 minutes later, she made only $100,000. ONCE AGAIN, I AM NOT THE OWNER! I am a customer who watched this woman use her "knowledge" to get her machine messed up not once but twice. Get a life, maybe with your moms fantasy money.

GARY EDWARDS IS A CROOKED THIEF WITH HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, CURSING ISSUES AND A VIOLENT TEMPER! You take your machine into Gary Edward's web thinking that you will get excellent customer service due to his many years of experience, clean store and bright white teeth and smile but believe me that mouth of his will do you no favors! He has been viciously attacking the Modesto Sewing World for years. I did not read the reviews prior to servicing my machine there...I SHOULD HAVE!
HE HAS PAGES OF 1 STARS AND AN F RATING WITH THE BBB! MOST OF THE POSITIVE REVIEWS ARE THE ONES THAT GARY IS LEAVING FOR HIMSELF!
I paid top dollar for my machine to be repaired. After leaving the store with it I COULD NOT EVEN SEW 30 INCHES WITHOUT MASSIVE ISSUES! I brought the machine back "SAME DAY" within one hour, as the machine was erring until my fabric was finally stuck in the machine!
The second that I walked back into his store with my machine in my arms, he yelled at me from across the store..."SO, YOU BROKE YOUR MACHINE AND YOUR BACK TO HAVE ME FIX IT HUH?" He proceeded to tell me that the machine had NO problems and that I WAS THE PROBLEM, AS I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SEW!... WOW!!! REALLY GARY! That is how you are going to speak to your valued customers?? I have sewn over 50,000 yards of fabric in my business in the last 10 years and I do not know how to sew Gary??? He then went on to tell me that ONCE THE MACHINE LEAVES HIS STORE, THAT HE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FURTHER REPAIRS! YOU DO NOT SEE THIS POSTED IN THE STORE AND NOR DOES HE TELL YOU!!
Well, needless to say, I did not bring my husband with me for protection and I should have. He was yelling at me and getting closer and closer to my face while his strange male employees stand idly by. While Gary went into the back, even one of them knotted his head with a big YES as I asked him if this is the way that Gary always treats his customers.
As you can see in the review below, Gary is pretending that he was a customer that walked into his store and saw me MRS LEMUS berating Mr Edwards. He speaks of himself as the man who "gives his 100% effort and time to his community and customers"....HEY GARY, DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS ABOUT YOURSELF? READ YOUR REVIEWS MAN! THE REVIEWS SHOULD TELL YOU AND OTHERS WHAT AN AWFUL JOB YOU ARE ACTUALLY DOING AT SERVICING THIS FINE COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE....you are simply ROBBING from this community. Do you not realize that you are actually making an even larger fool of yourself when you "FAKE REVIEWS" to make yourself look better? I only wish that a customer "would have" walked into your store that day as I would have taken the opportunity to warn them to RUN OUT THE DOOR BEFORE YOU GET SCAMMED!!! No need to keep writing positive reviews about yourself, just read the bad reviews and embrace what you are doing to innocent people...
I FINALLY GOT MY REFUND FROM MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY FOR THE HORRIBLE SERGER REPAIR DONE BY GARY EDWARDS! ..Well Gary, I have NO IDEA how you have stayed open all these years? You can only prey on each family one time so I imagine that before long, the word will get around about you...Picketing and news exposure sounds like a much faster way to get the word out! I hope you permanently close your doors soon....or, change your ways!
THE SEW DOCTOR IS REPUTABLE! THAT STORE IS RIGHT DOWN THE STREET ONLY 1 MIN AWAY FROM GARY'S TORTURE CLINIC. THE OWNER IS VERY PLEASANT AND HE CAN BE TRUSTED!
Come In and See For Yourself!. Things written have not shown what this store has to offer. This store has amazing customer service, every bag made for vacuums and very knowledgeable sewing technicians. Although everyone is a critic, I work for this business and know that you'll leave here with a satisfied feeling once you return for your sewing or vacuum cleaner. We appreciate all our customers and hope you can appreciate the effort put into making sure you're happy. Thank you and have a great day!
DO NOT GO HERE!!. Horrible place!!! I wish I would have done my research beforehand. The comments on the other review sites are negative AND it has a lot of complaints listed at the Better Business Bureau. After I told all of my clients and friends what I experienced at Modesto Vacuum and Sewing Center they all said "well, yeah, you haven't heard"?!? Apparently Gary, the owner, is known for being a scammer and a crook and that he has a nasty attitude. When I walked in he was yelling at his wife to mind her own business and concentrate on the sewing lesson she was giving. I should have walked away right there. If you can treat your wife like garbage then most likely, you treat everyone that way. Anybody with a shred of common business sense in an industry dealing with mainly women as customers would know that as women, customer service and a gentle attitude go along way. Furthermore, I should have been upset with the fact that we paid him to fix our vacuum and he took our money and didn't fixed it BUT I understand that people make mistakes. I was more upset with his disrespect and rudeness. He did eventually fix our vacuum but I had to endure his screaming and temper tantrum before he finally agreed to fix it. He yelled at me for the mistake HE made and was over-the-top UNPROFESSIONAL! I felt so bad for his wife Colleen until my husband went back to pick up our vacuum and Colleen was equally as rude. The only nice person there was their sales associate. They should sell the business to her. It would probably get better reviews if they let her handle things. These people are unhappy and they will take it out on you! We have another vacuum and sewing machine that need service but we won't be taking it back there. I hope you're looking at this review BEFORE you consider taking your sewing machine or vacuum to get repaired so you can stay away from Modesto Vacuum and Sewing Center.
The competition must be pissed. I read the reviews and found it hard to believe that a place can remain in business and treat customers like crap. I found the complete opposite of what was written about Modesto Vacuum and sewing. My wife and I took her Phaff in for repairs planning on spending at least $100 minimum. From the moment we walked through the doors Gary Edwards was a complete professional. My wife explained what her machine was doing and Gary took it in the back right away to have a look. Within 10 minutes her machine was fixed and running perfectly at NO CHARGE. Gary took the time to explain what had happened and what he did to fix it, again AT NO CHARGE. Gary is very knowledgeable about his business, and not to mention Ham radio and guitar. Don’t believe any of those crappy reviews, go see for yourself. Don’t take the word of angry competitors. We were in the shop for about 30 minutes and NOT ONE person burst into tears or insulted in any way, shape or form.
